FELIPE SANCHEZ: Branding Yourself: Turning Your Life Into Content
Personal branding doesn’t have to be about creating someone new—it’s about turning your own life into a story people want to follow. Felipe Sanchez, a Colombian-Italian Amsterdammer and branding professional, has mastered this on Instagram, transforming everyday moments into humorous, relatable content that connects with audiences while staying true to himself.

Branding is a word we often associate with companies, logos and marketing strategies. But in the age of social media, branding is no longer just for corporations. Increasingly, individuals are becoming brands themselves.
For anyone hoping to grow a presence online, personal branding has become one of the most powerful tools. Social media is overflowing with content, and standing out requires more than simply posting regularly. It requires a clear sense of identity—something people recognize and remember.
Many people think branding means inventing a new persona or carefully crafting a visual style. In reality, the strongest brands often come from much closer to home. Instead of creating something completely artificial, successful creators often draw from their own experiences, personalities and observations about everyday life.
Felipe Sanchez is a great example of this approach. His personal Instagram has been growing rapidly thanks to humorous content that recreates small everyday moments many people instantly recognize. At the same time, Felipe also works professionally in branding for major companies, giving him a unique perspective on how branding works both in business and on social media.
We spoke with Felipe about personal branding, growing an audience online, and how your own life experiences can become your strongest creative asset.
GWF: Can you introduce yourself and tell what inspires the kind of content you create?
I am Felipe, 31, A Colombian-italian Amsterdammer with a passion for people and design…because of it I have developed a fascination of understanding and reading people in random scenarios of everyday life. I love to act out moments people take for granted or don’t think about; I think that’s what has made my content really connect with people (and the occasional thrist trapping ofc)
GWF: How would you define branding in today’s social media landscape?
Branding is the gateway into people’s hearts. The modern world is full of content and that can become overstimulating. Good branding can help you standout and generate that impact you need to have your career/brand take off.
GWF: Many people think branding is just about visuals. What makes a brand truly strong beyond aesthetics?
Branding isn't visuals. Visuals are only catalysts. Branding is strategy and intention.
GWF: When someone is building a personal brand, where should they start?
From inside! I struggled for months to understand what content people wanted to see from me. It wasn't until I started digging into past life experiences that my content broke out and started resonating with my audience.
GWF: When you started digging into your past, how did you decide what to share — and was there something you once overlooked or dismissed that later became your strongest branding asset?
Past experiences are like checks. You can have them laying around and not enjoy the cash or you can cash it out and turn them into something positive. I was a huge party boy to the point of almost losing it all. I corrected my course and now exploit all those situations of that dark time of my life. It's like making something positive out of bad memories. It's all about perspective.
GWF: What are the biggest mistakes you see individuals make when trying to grow on social media?
Trying and cater to everyone. Know who you are speaking to, know who is truly interested in you and what you have to say. Not everyone will be.
GWF: How important is consistency — visually and tonally — and how can someone maintain it without feeling repetitive?
This goes back to understanding who you are and how to sell yourself. A breakout moment is just that, keeping the momentum by evolving your content is what keeps you on people's screens. Open conversations, don't be afraid to be "cringe". It's a combination between consistency, innovation and taking risks.
GWF: How do you balance authenticity with strategy? Can you be both natural and intentional at the same time?
They must be in synergy. Just having good ideas that are true to yourself isn't enough. Put yourself in your audiences brain and create a strategy that supports what both you and the public's wants to see.
GWF: For a strong brand image, should you be seen on multiple social platforms or rather just focus on one?
I'd say focus on understanding one platform at a time. Different apps have different algorithms.
GWF: How do you see personal branding evolving in the next few years?
Personal branding is already everything. You want to be successful? Brand yourself. Become a digestible product that people want to consume. I and don't see that changing anytime soon!
